106. Make $1,000+ per month – Make money with elderly care
You can make money with elderly care. The need for elderly care businesses is on the rise. As the baby boomers grow old, the need for elderly care services and products grows dramatically. You can profit from this rising demand by starting a non medical elderly care business.
The purpose is to keep elderly people in their homes as long as possible, so they don't need to go to an expensive nursing home.
Basically non-medical home care services include personal care, assistance with daily living activities, meal preparation, housekeeping and transportation. Such services are often vital for folks to remain safe and comfortable in their homes. Private pay rather then 3rd party billing sources are the most common form of payment for non-medical care.
You can charge by the hour or by the month your services.
Some friends of ours, hired an elderly care taker to live in their home and provide personal care services 24/5. The company they work with hires people in Europe who wish to immigrate to the United States. What do they pay? About $3,000 per month.
Possible services you provide are:
1. Do grocery shopping and medical supply shopping for the senior
2. Become personal chef: you do the grocery shopping, fix the meal, and do kitchen clean-up
3. Transportation, personal driver to and from Dr. appointments
4. Maid service
5. Do the laundry
6. Day trips or outings
7. Become an elderly sitter (sometimes they need accompany for 4-8 hours per day)
8. Help them wake up
9. Prepare meals (morning, noon, evening)
10. Help them to wash themselves (take bath or shower and groom them)
For example; you prepare (and buy) meals for the senior (that you finish at home) and do his/her laundry for $800 per month. You also drive him/her around during the week (1 time per day) for an additional $400 per month. You also visit the senior 2 hours per day to wash him/her and clean his/her bed and flat for $600 per month. That's $1,800 per month in total.
You could also simply focus on providing only one service you do for many seniors, for example, doing their laundry (picking up, cleaning, ironing and delivery) for $200 per month. With 10 seniors you make $2,000 per month without much work. Or offer them to clean their flat twice per month (4 hours in total) for $100 per month. Or do grocery shopping for them (shop with listing once per week) for $100-$200 per month per senior.
Usually, when you provide such services, you have to work only several hours per day for the elderly, to a maximum of 8 hours per day.
Exceptionally, you could also provide 24-hour day care for the elderly for a monthly wage, like $2,500 per month, implementing all the household tasks. You may also live in with the elderly, saving you accommodation costs.
Research your area for senior citizen housing. Normally you can just search white pages for senior citizen apartments. This is who you want to do business with and they will advertise for you by telling their friends.
Also it is really convenient to have a high concentration of clients in close proximity.
Once you have determined which services you will offer and where your clients live, start to market your services by introducing yourself and handing out business cards, hanging fliers etc in and near the Senior Citizens apartment buildings.
Keep adding other apartment buildings until you have all the clients you need in order to make a good living at this.
You can also promote your elderly care services by creating a website and placing ads on Craigslist.com.
If you like working for the elderly, you can also search for private jobs for the elderly on Craigslist and on other job sites.
